In the local language, “Gahana” means “Jewel”. Gahana Orchards is the ancestral home of the Mehra family, built by ADC (Aide-de-Camp) Bachi Singh Mehra, who was the right hand man to the Maharaja Jind of Patiala before Indian Independence and until 1966.

This gorgeous property is spread over mor e than 250 acres of or chards with plums, peaches, apricot, pear and apple trees. The variety of flor a and fauna consists of Oak, Cedar s and Kafal trees and a significant bird species such as Fork tails, Woodpeckers, Pheasant, Partridges, Redstart, fly catcher, Magpie, Raptors are to be found.
